In December 1972 Miscellany ran an article featuring Howard Goy of Cleethorpes with his original Series 1 4/4 V Comp 4 seater, which ended by Howard asking for other local enthusiasts to get in touch. It took three years, but on October 15th 1975 Howard wrote to several MSCC members in the area to advise them that a meeting had been arranged for Sunday November 2nd at the Monck's Arms, Caenby. The invitees were told 'see you at the pit beforehand'. This was because Howard took part in grass track racing at the nearby track, being part of the pit crew for a grey Anglia, racing number MR54. He invited attendees to see him there first and expected the meeting to start after 6pm and 'as soon as: a) the pub re-opens and b) I have someone to talk to'.
At the first meeting those present were: Howard in his 4/4 V Comp 4 seater, Dr Alec Mudie of Kirton Lindsey with his 1947 4/4 drop head coupe, Barry Reeve of Lincoln with his 4/4 4 seater, Phil Hornby in his new +8, Ray (?) who was in the navy, in his +4 4 seater and Nigel Corbishley in his 4/4 1600 4 seater. Mick Harrison was invited, but was in Germany at the time and joined Linmog in 1976. It was decided at the meeting to call the group Linmog although it was originally proposed as the Humberside centre. The intention was to fill the gap between East Anglia and Yorkshire, which was announced in MSCC Newsletter number 59 in November 1975.
The next meeting took place at the Monck's Arms in December 1975, but it was the January lunch in 1976 at RAF Digby which gave members the first chance to see their cars in daylight and also delight in the arrival of Nigel Corbishley's new 4/4 in two tone brown as well as welcoming Stephen Clarke and David Wooley as new members. It seems that Dave Wright may also have been at this meeting. The three course meal cost under 50p and Double Diamond was 12p per pint ! The rest, as they say, is history ...
The progression of the centre can be followed through this site's history archives; and also Miscellany, the storybook ( found in the members' section ) and centre newsletters which are kept in Linmog's archives.
